Our hearts are breaking for you all. We have followed Andrew’s brave struggle through Keith’s agony over the loss of his best friend.

Andrew will always have a special place in our hearts as he was Keith’s companion for much of the mischievous times that were had during their high school days, particularly on the organization and implementation of many a wild house party at our house when we were away. He was a joy to have stay at our house over the many years. His smiling face, twinkling eyes and beautiful manners were always a pleasure to have around. His outstanding performance as Romeo is one of the abiding memories we will always have of the lovely Andrew. May the many wonderful memories sustain you over the difficult time ahead.

We are so sorry that we will not be able to attend any of the funeral services for Andrew as we will both be out of the country for the next 10 days.

    Thinking of you all.

    Sheila Geary

    The Rose Beyond the Wall

    A rose once grew

    where all could see,

    sheltered beside a garden wall.

As the days passed swiftly by,

it spread it’s branches straight and tall…

One day, a beam of light shone

through a crevice that had opened wide-

The rose bent gently toward it’s warmth

then passed beyond to the other side…

    Now the rose blooms there

    It’s beauty even greater now,

    nurtured by God’s loving care.

Know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers. Andrew was a wonderful young man. I’ll always remember how he started off as a shy, quiet young boy in my science class who then blossomed into an enthusiastic, confident and talented “star” who brought our stage to life. He was a true “Lasallian”.

We heard of Andrew’s story through Lil Cimicata. We live on Ellerslie as well and met you once during a fundraiser at Goulding Park. Unfortunately, we only got to know Andrew from what Lil told us and the announcements made at our kids’ school – De La Salle College (where Andrew also went). Our heartfelt sympathy to the Valade family and Jasna (who has written so wonderfully on the website). We are so very sorry to have heard about the loss of such a young man.

Dear Valades – I struggle to find any words that can truely provide comfort at a time like this. Please know that you are all in our thoughts and that we offer our most sincere condolences. Andrew shall continue to be a part of your lives through the memories that you share of him – celebrate those moments with each other. We shall continue to fondly remember the Christmas in Belgium, around to campfire in Brasschaat, toddies in hand, laughter and discussions of planning a visit to Amsterdam. All of our love to you.

  33. Charlene Butcher

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Valades and Family:

My son Tyler Bevan attended Andrew’s funeral and was very moved as I’m sure all who attended were. He met Andrew through Keith, but I’m not sure exactly when that was. My heart goes out to you as losing a child is the hardest bereavement to deal with and to understand. It is not the normal progression in the “Circle of Life”.

    My sincerest condolences

    Charlene Butcher

  41. Patsy Wharton

Dearest Jacquie, Although we have not had contact over all these years, your Mum has always kept us up to date with your life and now David told us the sad news of Andrew passing away. There are no words to say how sorry I am, especially sorry that distance has made it so hard for us to keep in touch and to meet our respective families. Nevertheless, know that our thoughts are with you and your family, wishing you strength to carry on and, maybe, in some time not too far on, to appreciate and find a new meaning to life. All our love, Your cousin Patsy, Jorge (husband), Alex (12)and Joaquin (7).

Dear Jacquie and Dan. We have just heard that Andrew passed away recently and we are in shock. You may remember that Brett and Andrew played hockey together many years ago with the Goulding Park Rangers. We had the pleasure of being at your home with the team. There are no words to express the loss of a child, but we are truly sorry and deeply saddened. We remember Andrew as kind, gentle, somewhat shy, handsome with beautiful piercing blue eyes, a wonderful young person. Our sincere condolences to you and your family.

  43. Rita

  44. Micahel Mcphee

    Hello.

My name is Mike McPhee, and I was Andrew’s drama teacher and director in High School. I am overwhelmed right now as I have just heard of this tragedy. I have a picture of Andrew in my class room, now far away, of he and others giving so much to our program. And I make a point of referring to him each and every year with my students as an example of what I expect from them on stage. Your son, your brother, has left an indelible mark on me. I say this because he was so genuine, so giving and so talented…a young man who wasn’t afraid to show vulnerability and honesty on stage and in the classroom. Our Andrew, the most perfect Romeo. He was a gift and I will never forget him.

My heart is with you and my prayers are endless. “Death, that has sucked the honey from his breath…” but has no power over his spirit, his memory or your love.

    My deepest condolences.

  45. Debbie Wharton

Dear Jacqui, Words are so difficult to express for such a tremendously sad experience. We sympathize deeply with you and all your very special family and wish you all our love. Your cousin Debbie and Tommy (husband)
